No. Application for hall residency is considered on a yearly basis. All rooms are allotted by lot drawing but not on a first-come-first-served basis.
You can indicate your preference of hall / room type in the e-application form, but you cannot choose a room with specific features. You are recommended to refer to the introduction of each hall and room type on our webpage before tendering an application.
You are strongly advised to check carefully all the information before submitting the application. Amendment will only be considered BEFORE the application deadline. Please contact PGH Office via email for this request.
Yes. Applicants on the allotment list who are allotted shared room and whose room number is not yet assigned can apply for roommateship during the application period. Applicants should be within the same hostel location, i.e. either in PGH 1, PGH 2&3 or PGH 4-6. Please make sure the room preferences are the same with your partner. Applicants whose residence offer commences from September is not eligible to apply.
However, the application depends on the availability of vacant rooms and the number of applicants. Application may fail if there are not enough vacant shared rooms.
Yes, you can apply for roommateship by fulfilling below conditions:
- You are allotted shared room
- Current roommate(s) will move out by official check-out date in July; &
- Only partner with applicant(s) whose room number is not yet assigned.
If your roommate is not going to move out, you should apply to change to new shared room in hall residence application so as to form roommateship with your partner. Applicants should be within the same hostel location, i.e. either in PGH 1, PGH 2&3 or PGH 4-6. Please make sure the room preferences are the same with your partner.
Yes, current residents who intend to change hall/room due to special reasons, for example health condition, to form roommateship with another student, can indicate room preference in Part B of the e-application form. Special reasons and supporting document are required in Part C and D respectively, otherwise the application will not be considered. The application is subject to availability of vacant rooms and is not guaranteed successful. Priority will be given to applicants who apply due to health condition with strong evidence.
Successful applicants should move to the newly allotted room when informed by the PGH General Office. All current residents who fail in the room change application will be placed back to their original room.
No. If you give up the offer, you will be required to check out from PGH at the end of hall residence period.
We have a few couple rooms in JCPGH 1 for married student couples to apply. However, both applicants must meet the eligibility of hall residency and these rooms are subject to availability. If you intend to apply for the room type, both applicants should select PGH 1 Shared Room as the top priority, indicate the special reason and submit marriage certificate as the supporting document in the application.
Offers will be made to applicants on the finalized list by email individually starting from mid-June, for details, please refer to “Schedule for PGH Allotment 2024/25”. Offers will also be made to applicants on the wait list in the rolling allotments in the end of each month starting from late-June subject to room availability.

Hall residence period is used to commence on 1 August and end in mid-July. Most applicants will be offered hall residence starting from 1 August, while some will start from 1 September due to start date of individual normative study period, room availability and lot drawing.
Waitlisted applicants may receive offer of which the residence period may commence on 1 August, 1 September, 1 October or later, depending on start date of individual normative study period, room availability and lot drawing.
When you receive an offer via email, you have FOUR days to accept the offer and a HK$2,000 reservation fee is required upon accepting the offer. The fee will be used to settle part of the first two months’ hostel fee (HK$1,000 per month). It is non-refundable in any circumstances after acceptance.
If you will firmly start your study in CUHK and will check in at PGH according to offered hall residence, please accept the offer, and pay by deadline.
If you do not accept the offer before deadline or missed the deadline, the offer will be withdrawn. You need to submit new application to be added to the wait list if you are still interested in living at PGH.
You may opt to decline the offer and re-apply starting from early-August or look for off-campus housing as the alternative. Please refer to Learning and Cultural Enhancement Section, Office of Student Affairs.

Yes, you can still submit e-application before the end of Jan 2025 and you will be waitlisted. However, PGH is always fully occupied during term time, offer will only be made by lot drawings when there are vacancies. You are recommended to look for off-campus housing as the alternative with reference to Learning and Cultural Enhancement Section, Office of Student Affairs.
